The Sounds of Doghouse D+1
Welcome to the unique world of Doghouse D+1, where every note tells a story. Discover our original music, crafted with passion by a father-daughter team.

Our Unique Sound
Our music is a weird blend of reckless rockabilly, blind boogie woogie, and heartfelt country. As unique as our stage combination, our sound is difficult to define, yet somehow seems to fit us. We aim to evoke a spectrum of emotions, from joy to introspection, in every listener.

Our Creative Journey
TJ explains, "I start the early writing process by crawling into a space between our two worlds-the worlds of the blind and the sighted" Hope's songs never use visual references and cleverly play on common "blind phrases" used in everyday vocabulary. The songs we write together are inspired by our positive philosophy: making every day a project to fill with laughter, heart and music.
"The Blind One"

Our Favorites
We are very proud of all our creations, but some hold a special place. Hope believes "The Blind One" is our most soulful country song. TJ finds "Bad Boy Blues" deeply personal, reflecting his journey from his wild early days to the man and father he is now. And of course, "Etta's Getting Hot Tonight" is our fun way to honor Etta J Paulos, Hope's wonderful guide dog and the third member of our family and band.

T.J. and Hope's music combine a powerful mix of classic country, swing and rockabilly, along with a wonderful dose of humor, humanity...and Etta!!! It's always a pleasure working with them! Enjoy!

Turn A Blind Eye
I am blind. Darkness is in my eyes. Not in my mind. Not in my heart. Not in my soul. Blindness sometimes conspires to ruin my days, sometimes in little things that annoy, or big things that devastate. Blindness tries to reduce my life, to reduce me. Everytime I choose to rise above its grip on me, my life improves, it elevates. Everytime I "Turn A Blind Eye" to the darkness, there is more light, and my life gets better, less dark. This song is more than just a cute play on words. It is the truth I live....

Why Can't It Be Like It Was
This is Brad Strause. Unlike me, he was not born blind. He went blind in adulthood. He had a career, he had a wife, and he had a life in the sighted world. He went blind, and then had no career, soon no wife and no place in the sighted world. But he had played music in his younger days, and he went back to it after he went blind. He is the inspiration for this song. Being blinded closes doors once open. Being born blind often means those doors never open in the first place. Whether through loss or absence, blindness forces you to choose a different path from those who can see. Sometimes the unfairness is not easy to accept, hence this song...
